SOCIAL CONCEPT SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LIVES OF PROPERTIES
Nomad; It is derived from the word walking (mek), orbital (mek). As such, Yörük means a person who lives as "walking", "immigrant", "nomadic" or "semi-nomadic". Although the first meaning of the term was related to the nomadic way of living, over time, some of the people who left the "nomadic" life, were tied to the ground, peasant, and even urbanized, continued to use the word "Yörük", which is the name of their ancestors' way of living. This name, which emerged in the period of the Ottoman state, gradually began to be forgotten in parallel with the withdrawal of nomadic life from social life. Yörüklük, which is the name of life style and economic production, is a cultural structure today. Yörük is not the name of an ethnic structure. It is not possible to show the nomadism as a different ethnic group and to think apart from the Turkmen and Turkish names.
The nomads are ethnically in the Turkmen / Oghuz tribes of Turks. Many sources say that the Oghuz Turks, who came to life with the immigration of Turks to Anatolia, remained under the name of Turkmen, and those who remained nomads were called Yörük.
Yoruk's way of life has also affected his way of thinking and behavior. Nomads encounter many places, dormitories and human communities due to the nomadic life. This becomes the richness of his thinking and behavior. Yörük is more libertarian and more tolerant, although the narrow structure of the peasantry is so conservative.
Yörükler; Due to the living system, he was able to meet different people and different cultures. Due to these encounters, he became aware of the existence of different cultures and beliefs, and learned to be able to look with tolerance even if he did not adopt them, and applied this in his daily life. Yörükler; they were at the head of those who provided cultural change and development. Their way of living a nomadic or semi-nomadic way has led to cultural mobility in other regions to another region. Nomads have a great role in cultural interaction and the spread of culture. Living with different thoughts, feelings and nature has kept the world of thoughts and beliefs as wide as the universe where Yörük lives, therefore, it is a way of living to be tolerant in the view of religion and people living in different cultures.
Yörük, which is the name of Turks' nomadic or semi-nomadic life and thinking, takes its source from the love of environment, animals and people. It is important for Turkish culture to determine the universal values of this tradition and to revive it as an intellectual and cultural asset.
Yörük in historical periods; It is the person who spends the spring in the summer, the summer in the highland, the autumn in the beautiful and the winter in the winter. The life of the nomad depends on the animal. Its main power source is animals. The basic basis of the nomad economy is based on animal breeding. Nomad; mainly cattle breeding and horse and camel feeding. Goats and sheep are the most obvious sources of this. Camels and horses are mostly riding and pulling vehicles. Horse is a binite, camel migrate or load. There are the most beautiful recipes of this in Dede Korkut Book or Divanu Lügai't-Türk.
Yoruks used to grow wheat, barley, corn and some vegetables in the highlands and barracks. Dairy products and meat were their staple foods. They would weave clothing and household goods themselves. However, they did not have a closed economy, they would go to the markets in villages and towns, sell their products and buy their own needs. With their camels, they carried loads between cities. Yörükler carried wheat and similar consumer goods with their camels to big cities like Istanbul. Yörükler, who fed goats, sat in tents made of bristle and others in tents made of felt. The nomad tents resembling the house had sections for sitting, lying and cooking. The tent would be built on 5-9 poles lined up around the middle pole. Large tents even had a section where passenger animals were tied. The sitting part of the tent was covered with Yörük rugs and there were cushions on the edges. In the tent, everyone's seat was clear.
